State of the World
We often wonder whether our lives really matter in the bigger picture of what God is doing in the world. We see enormous needs around us, feel limited by our circumstances, and struggle to know where we fit into God’s purposes. Yet Scripture reminds us that God is sovereignly at work, placing his people exactly where he wants them to accomplish his plans.
In this message from Esther 4:13–16, David Platt shows us how God sovereignly ordains our lives for the accomplishment of his global purposes. Through Esther’s story, we see that God places his people in moments of historic need and historic opportunity to play a unique part in his plan to bring salvation to the nations. The familiar words, “for such a time as this,” remind us that our lives are not accidents.
Today, billions of people have never heard the good news of Jesus. They are separated from God by sin and can only be saved through faith in Christ, which comes through hearing the gospel. Yet God has given us unprecedented opportunities to take that gospel to the nations through travel, technology, urbanization, and globalization. The question is not whether God will accomplish his purposes, but whether we will surrender our lives to participate in them. Our response must begin with seeking his face, depending on the Holy Spirit, and willingly giving ourselves to whatever he calls us to do. Following Jesus may be costly, but a life surrendered to his purposes will never be wasted.
