Share Your Faith (Philemon 6)

What a great verse. Paul is saying here that sharing our faith—both sharing the gospel and sharing faith with other believers—is good for others and also good for us. It becomes effective for a fuller knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ.

Think about that: when you share faith with other brothers and sisters in Christ—when you encourage them and build them up—is that good for you? Yes, of course it is good for them, but it is also good for you. It builds up your own faith as you build up others. It leads you to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the good things we have in Christ.

The same is true when we share the gospel with people around us. When we share the greatest news in the world—the love of God, the love of Jesus who died on the cross and rose from the dead so we can have hope, peace, and joy that surpasses anything in this world—we realize even more how glorious that news is. We realize how much we need it. It is good for us to share the gospel with others.

So, God, we pray for your glory, for the good of others, and for our own good, that you would help us share our faith today. Help us to build up other brothers and sisters in Christ, to encourage others in their faith, and to talk about who you are, what you have done for us, and all your promises to us. May this saturate our conversations so that we grow into a greater knowledge of every good thing you have given us.

And, God, we pray that you would help us share the gospel with someone today. Help us share the love of Jesus with someone who does not yet know him. We pray that you would bring them to faith in Jesus—that the Holy Spirit would draw them to see your love—and that you would open our eyes in greater ways to your love for us and to the riches we have in this gospel we are sharing.

A Prayer for the Bundela People

We pray for this around the world. We pray for the Bundela Rajput people of India—all 100,000 men, women, and children. We pray that they would be reached with the good news of your love through believers who are experiencing and sharing that love with them.

God, help us experience the joy, peace, and life you designed for us by spreading the gospel to people around us and to the nations. Use our lives and our resources toward that end. May we not keep faith to ourselves today, but share it in the way Philemon 1:6 describes—effectively and for a fuller knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Jesus.

We pray this in his name. Amen.
