God Is Our Confidence (Proverbs 3:23–26)

“Then you will walk on your way securely and your foot will not stumble. If you lie down you will not be afraid. When you lie down your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden terror, or of the ruin of the wicked when it comes. For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.”
– Proverbs 3:23–26

Aw, what security God has designed for our lives, designed us to live in. In a world where obviously none of us knows what’s going to happen the rest of today or tomorrow or the next day and the possible things that could happen are I mean, they’re endless. If that’s the case, how do we sleep in a way that’s sweet at night? How do we lie down without fear, especially in a world of evil and justice around us? But, here’s the security that God promises for us as His people. He says, “When you’re looking to me, when you’re walking the fear of me. When you’re trusting in me, then you will walk securely. Your foot will not stumble.”

God promises that when we are pursuing Him, we have no reason to fear.

Proverbs 3:23–26 Leads Us to Pursue the Lord

He’s talking about the righteous life when we are walking and pursuing God. Then we are not stumbling toward evil. We’re pursuing Him. As a result, when we lie down we have no reason to fear. We can sleep sweet because in the words of Proverbs 3:5–6, we’re trusting in Him with all our heart. We’re not leaning on our own understanding. As we are acknowledging Him, He’s making our paths straight so we don’t have to be afraid of sudden terror of the ruin of the wicked when it comes because God is our confidence. He keeps us from being pulled toward evil when we are walking in the fear of Him, trusting Him, with all our heart.

This Verse Prays for Security

God, I pray, we pray, for this kind of security in our lives. Help us to experience this on a moment-by-moment, day-by-day, basis. Help us to walk in the fear of You. Help us to walk in the way of righteousness before us and as we do help us to sleep sweet at night. Help us to lie down with no fear because You are our confidence. You will keep our feet from getting caught. Help us God. We pray in these ways to walk in wisdom and as a result to rest in You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
