“I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh, when will you come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house.”
– 1 Timothy 6:11
Ah, think about 1 Timothy 6:11 as we pray today. Don’t we long for a blameless life? One that is not open to charge of evil or wrongdoing, a good life to ponder the way that is blameless and to walk with integrity of heart.
Who of us wants to walk with hypocrisy? Who of us wants to walk in injustice? Or who of us wants to walk in a way that is not authentic in a way that is fake or foolish. None of us do. We want to walk with integrity of heart and I love this phrase, I will walk with integrity of heart within my house.
This Verse Leads Us to Pray to Avoid Sin
Lord help us to say no to sin and to pursue Christ. May we be marked by a pursuit of righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, and gentleness.
The picture in 1 Timothy 6:11 is in private and in public, like when nobody is looking, I want to walk with integrity of heart before God. I want my life to reflect love for God, devotion to his ways and his word, when nobody is looking. When there is no applause for it. And, in all that I do that flows from my house in my public life, I want there to be integrity. I want them to match. I want my love for God alone to match my love for God in the world. And I want my love for God in the world to match my love for God alone. So, I want these things to be true and in this, I want to walk with blamelessness before God and before others.
Don’t you want that? For every follower of Jesus, we want that. I’m guessing even if you are not a follower of Jesus, you would want to have integrity, you would want to walk in that which is good.
1 Timothy 6:11 Reminds Us of the Gospel
The beauty of the gospel is that God has made a way for us to walk in that which is good. For us to be saved from our sinfulness, all of our tendencies toward hypocrisy, toward evil, toward inauthenticity, toward injustice, toward unrighteousness. All these things we have been saved from through faith in Jesus.
When we trust in Jesus and what he has done on the cross for us, he forgives us of our sin. He brings us into a relationship with God, restores us into the relationship with God we’re designed to have so that we can not just ponder, but experience the way that is blameless, not just desire, but walk with integrity of heart. Within our house, privately, publicly. So, God, we pray. We pray that these things would be true of us as we ponder the way that it’s blameless even right now as we think about today, tomorrow, that which is good and right, Holy, pleasing to you, good for others.
1 Timothy 6:11 Leads Us to Pray for Help
God, we want to walk in that way. We want to speak in that way and we want to make decisions that are blameless. Also, we want to have conversations that are blameless. As well as, we want to have thoughts and desires that are blameless. We want to live in a way that is blameless, so help us, we pray, by the grace of Christ. The power of your Holy Spirit in us. Help us to walk in ways that are blameless, with integrity of heart.
God, we pray for this. I pray for this in my life. God, I pray for integrity. I want my life before you, when I’m alone to be pleasing to you and I want my life before you and before others, when I am around others, to be pleasing to you. God, both. I pray for that. I pray that you would keep me, all of us who are praying this right now from putting on a face before others that is just not true before you.
God, that you would deliver us, save us from hypocrisy and inauthenticity. Help us to walk with integrity of heart before you in our houses, when we’re alone, and everything that flows from our houses before others. God, we pray for blameless lives of integrity. Knowing these things are only possible through what Jesus has done for us on the cross and what Jesus can and promises to do in us as we abide in him today, by the power of your Holy Spirit. God, by Your grace, through Christ, in us, may we ponder the way that is blameless and walk with integrity of heart today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
