A Mighty Redeemer (Jeremiah 50:34)

Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name.
– Jeremiah 50:34

Oh, what a good word. God speaking to his people, basically saying, “Don’t be afraid of other nations because your Redeemer is strong. He’s the Lord of hosts. He’s the Lord of heavenly armies. So you have nothing to fear”.

Jeremiah 50:34 shows that sin and suffering will not have the final word.

I read this verse, and I just think about all the tragic, painful, harmful, horrible consequences of sin that I see around me in the world, around us, in the world. We all see them, and when it seems like sin is prevailing, Satan is winning. Just want to remind you, based on Jeremiah 50:34, he will lose. He is not a victor. He has been defeated by Jesus the Redeemer, who is strong, who is infinitely strong, which means you can trust in him and his redemption.

You can trust that sin will not have the last word, that sorrow will not have the last word. Jesus, the Redeemer, will have the last word. The Lord of hosts is his name, the Lord of heavenly armies. This is what we read about in Revelation that was such an encouragement to followers of Jesus in the first century, surrounded by a sinful, evil, Roman empire, where Christians are being persecuted and God gives this word to remind them in revelation that the Lord of hosts, Jesus himself, is coming back riding on a white horse and you will see his victory.

Jeremiah 50:34 encourages us to trust in the power of our Redeemer.

So hold fast with faith in him, with trust in him, and the redemption he is working. God, we praise you for your power to redeem Jesus. We praise you as our redeemer who lives. Think about Job even in the middle of his suffering, saying, “I know that I have a redeemer who lives, and in the end, he will stand upon the earth”.

God, we praise you for that reality. So we say today, we trust in your redeeming power and your redeeming purposes. We praise you as the Lord of heavenly armies, and we trust in you. We rest in you. God, we pray for deliverance from all fear, from all worry, from all anxiety, because we know you’re our Redeemer. You are infinitely strong, infinitely powerful, and if you are for us, nothing can stand against us. Help us to live in light of this reality today with hope in the redemption you have promised.

Prayer for the Razu People

And God, we pray that this good news of your redemption would spread to all the peoples of the world. We pray for the Razu people of India, for half a million of them who don’t know your redemption, no known followers of Jesus among them. God, we pray, save the Razu. Redeem the Razu people. Draw them to yourself. Redeem them. Show your strength. Raise up laborers to spread the gospel to them. Bless the church in India from other parts of the world, joining with them for the spread of the gospel among the Razu that they might be redeemed. We pray all this according to your Word in Jeremiah 50:4. In the name of Jesus, our strong Redeemer. Amen.
