Persecution Ramps Up In Indonesia

A church was burned in Indonesia this October.

Hundreds of people marched around government buildings demanding that all Christian churches had to go. Later, an angry mob set fire to a house that was being used as a church, claiming they did not have proper permits. In the ensuing aftermath of the mob attack, which included stoning, at least one person was killed and several others were injured.

Workers in the area estimated that more than 4,000 people fled to surrounding villages following these attacks at the beginning of October. Many who fled have now returned home despite growing opposition from extremists. Protestors have gained ground with the local governments, causing at least 10 churches to be torn down.

Believers who are passionate about sharing the gospel are facing opposition from all sides. Some churches have begun to distance from these believers in order to not draw attention to themselves. Though they remain bold in their faith, support from other churches is hard to find.

Pray for Persecution in Indonesia

Please pray for this ever-changing situation in Indonesia. Here are a few ways you can pray:

  • Ask the Lord to unify the body of Christ to seek his face together. Also, ask for them to walk in his will as they make a stand against persecution.
  • Pray for God to use this situation to bring true repentance from those who are Christian by name only.
  • Pray for Christ-followers to have the hearts of believers in Acts 4 who prayed for boldness to speak truth amidst persecution.
  • Ask that those who have yet to believe in Christ would see this situation and know that their way is not the way of God. Pray for many to come to Christ during this time.

Open Doors International ranks Indonesia as number 47 on the World Watch List for the persecution of Christians.

LESS THAN 1% OF ALL MONEY GIVEN TO MISSIONS GOES TO UNREACHED PEOPLE AND PLACES.

That means that the people with the most urgent spiritual and physical needs on the planet are receiving the least amount of support. Together we can change that!
