Walk with God (Genesis 5:24)

“Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.”
-Genesis 5:24

What a great verse Genesis 5:24 is. Enoch walked with God. One, that that would be the commentary on his life. Don’t you want that to be the commentary on your life? Like I want to get to the end, and oh by God’s grace may it be said of me. May it be said of you. He walked with God. She walked with God. Like, that’s how he or she lived, and then the bible says, “And he was not, for God took him.”

We want the commentary on our lives to say we walked with God.

The picture is, it doesn’t really talk about how Enoch died. It just talked about how one day, Enoch was there, and the next day, Enoch was not. It’s almost an Elijah like picture, when Elijah is just taken away right in front of Elisha’s eyes. I love what, I think it was D. L. Moody, who talking about this verse, the way he pictured it, he said, he just pictured God and Enoch walking together one day, and it got near the end of the day and God said to Enoch, “Well, we’re closer to my house than we are yours. Why don’t you just come home with me?” And he went home with him, just like that.

Genesis 5:24 Tells Us To Walk With God

Now I don’t know all the details of this, but I do know this for sure, that when we walk with God, by the grace of God, which is only possible, we know by the cross of Christ, that we have relationship with God, that we’re able to walk with God, and through faith in Christ, when we are reconciled to a relationship with God and we are walking with him, we can know that when this life is over, it is not the end. That it’s just the beginning of entirely new life, because God will take us to be with him forever.

This Verse Reminds Us That We Will Always Be With God

Isn’t that an incredible thought? Like, you and I are not guaranteed to make it through today. I know right now, I’m not guaranteed, I’m not guaranteed to make it through the end of this podcast episode in a sense. I’m not guaranteed my next breath. I’m certainly not guaranteed to make it to tonight or tomorrow morning or next week or next year or anything.

But I do know this, that by the grace of God, because I, through Christ am in relationship with God and I am walking with him, I don’t have to be afraid of what’s going to come 10 seconds from now or 10 hours from now or 10 years from now, whenever it is because I know that God will take me to be with him forever. That is an awesome thought, that once I’m gone, that I’ll be here no more, but I will be with him because he will have taken me.

Genesis 5:24 Prays That God Is The Commentary Of Our Lives

I pray that you know that security, through Christ and that as you know that security, that you would be compelled all the more then, to walk with God, every moment you have, on this earth until that day? So, God, may it be so. God help us to walk with you. We pray that that would be the commentary of our lives. We pray that that would be the commentary of our day. God, that today, we get to the end and we lay down in our beds, assuming you keep us, sustain us until then, that we would lay down in our beds and just say, that was a good day of walking with God, and then tomorrow, we rise in the morning.

You would just help us to pray, God, I want to walk with you today. I want to experience communion with you, all day long. I just want to walk with you, until we lay down our head on the pillow again. God may that be the commentary of our lives, on a daily basis, until you take us to be with you. And God, we praise you for the security that is found in knowing that one day, whenever it is, you are going to take us to be with you. Jesus, thank you for making that security a reality, in our lives. So, may this verse that describes Enoch’s life, describe our lives in the end. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
