The Divine Provision of God (Isaiah 62:6–7)

“On your walls oh Jerusalem, I have set a watchman all the day and all the night. They shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest and give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth.”
– Isaiah 62:6–7

Did you hear that language, at the end of Isaiah 62:6–7? Starting in Isaiah 62:6, we see this imagery that we’ve talked about before in previous episodes on this prayer podcast. As we see this picture of watchman on the walls, and we’ve talked before about how watchman warn the people of what’s coming. But this is specifically talking about watchman who are calling out to God for help, calling out to God for his glory, to be made known, for his protection of his people, for his provision for his people.

Isaiah 62:6–7 Encourages Us to Bring Our Requests to the Lord

And that’s the picture here in Isaiah 62:6 that says, “They shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest.” And then listen to Isaiah 62:7, “And give him no rest.” Give him no rest. Give who no rest? It’s talking about the Lord. And we know that because of what comes next.

Give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth. Who’s going to establish Jerusalem here in Isaiah 62:6–7 and make it a praise in the earth? Only God can do that. And the Bible is saying, “Give God the Lord, no rest, until he finishes his work among his people.” Is that not an awesome picture? Let’s be people who give God no rest until his name is hallowed in all the earth. Let’s never be silent, day and night, as we are awake all throughout the day. As we wake up in the middle of the night, let’s give God no rest.

Isaiah 62:6–7 Leads Us to Continually Pray

Let’s continually pray. Let’s do it right now. Our father in heaven, hallowed be your name. We ask for your name to be made known as holy in all the earth. We ask for your kingdom to come, for your will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

God bring it about, we pray, and we’re going to pray this until you bring it about, we’re going to give you no rest until your kingdom is established on this earth, until your justice and righteousness reign on the earth, until this earth is resounding with your glory and your praise, and your honor. We’re going to give you no rest until your glory is made known among all the nations.

God today, for the low heart people of India, 11 million-plus of them, Hindus, hardly any followers of Jesus, if there are any followers of Jesus among the low heart. God, we pray for your glory to spread among the low heart of India.

Until Every People Group Praises God

We’re going to give you no rest until all people groups, all nations, all tribes, every single one of them is giving you the praise you deserve. God, we pray that you would help us to be faithful watchmen like this, all the day, all the night, never being silent, taking no rest and giving you no rest until your name is hallowed in all the earth, until your kingdom comes and your will is done on earth as it is in heaven. God, please may it be so, we pray. Make us these kind of watchmen that we see in Isaiah 62:6–7. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
