Counsel, Guidance, & Glory (Psalm 73:23–24)

Nevertheless, I am continually with you. You hold my right hand, You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.
– Psalm 73:23–24

Isn’t that not a great couple of verses? Just to view your life today in this lens, through the lens of the God who is continually with you.

Psalm 73:23–24 Reminds Us that We are Continually Guided by God

I love that word continually. He is always, always, always, continually with you and me. He never for a moment leaves us. You and I have no idea what today holds, what tomorrow holds, but we know for sure whatever comes our way, God will be continually with us. And not just with us, the next phrase, “You hold my right hand.” He’s not just with us. He’s leading us, guiding us, directing us. I think about my little 15-month old girl and I love walking with her, holding her hand, and she’s just learned to walk recently. So she finds support in that.

She finds relationship in that. She finds joy in that as she reaches up for my hand, like yes to all of that in relationship with God. His support, His love for us, His joy, taking us by our right hand. And then verse 24, “You guide me with your counsel.” ah, just think about the Holy Spirit as our counselor, as our guide. We don’t have to make any decisions on our own because our God is continually with us, guiding us with his counsel. And afterward, you’ll receive me to glory.

Oh, put it all together. God is with us holding our hand, guiding us. And where is He guiding us? Where is He leading us? Where is He taking us? To glory. To glory. He’s leading us for our good. This is Romans 8-28-30, “God working all things together for the good of those who love Him, and are called according to His purpose.”

Psalm 73:23–24 Reminds Us that Our Destiny is to Enjoy God Forever

And His purpose is that we would be called justified and glorified with Him. So live your life today through this lens. Let’s pray through this lens. God, we praise you for continually being with us. I think about different things I’ve walked through this week, and I praise you that you have continually been with me at every moment, and that You promise to be that today and tomorrow and the next day and forever continually with us.

God, I pray for every person listening to this right now that you would help each of us to know that you are continually with us, holding our right hand. God, thank you for holding our hand. We praise you as our Father, as your children, for the privilege of you holding our hand, guiding us with your counsel. God, we praise you for your Holy Spirit in us that will not leave us alone today to make decisions on our own that will form our thoughts and our desires.

We pray, oh God, guide us with your counsel. I pray particularly over people who are making big decisions right now in their lives. Help them find deep encouragement in Psalm 73:24 today, that You guide them with your counsel. And God, we pray that over all the decisions we make, even the smallest decisions, guide us and ultimately, oh God, receive us in the glory. We look forward to the day when we will be glorified with You. So we pray that you could work all things together today toward that end. And God as we praise you for these realities, we pray for those who don’t know these realities. God, we pray that You would help us to lead others to You, to Your right hand, to Your counsel, to Your glory today, right around us.

Praying for the Najdi People

And God, we pray for people around the world specifically today, the Najdi people of Saudi Arabia, 14 and a half million of them, a few followers of Jesus among them. God, we pray for those followers of Jesus among the Najdi.

Please strengthen them, continually be with them, hold their right hand, guide them with Your counsel. God, we pray you blessed them for the spread of the gospel among the Najdi. Raise up more laborers to make the gospel known in Saudi Arabia, specifically among the Najd people. We pray all of this according to your word in Psalm 73:23–24. We love Your word in Jesus name. Amen.
