As the Waters Cover the Sea (Habakkuk 2:14)

“For the Earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
– Habakkuk 2:14

Habakkuk 2:14 is a promise. Let me say it again. The Earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. Amidst all the challenges that Habakkuk is walking through, that the people of God are experiencing at this moment in their history as Habakkuk is writing, this promise breaks through. It’s like a sunrise. Just the light just coming over the horizon and we are reminded that one day these trials shall pass. That one day these difficulties will be no more for the people of God, for all who trust in God.

As Christians we have confidence that a day is coming when the knowledge of the glory of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.

There is coming a day when His glory will fill the Earth. And knowledge of His glory, enjoyment of His glory like waters cover the sea. Picture the promise in the New Testament of a new heaven and a new Earth coming. This is what Jesus taught us to pray for, your kingdom come, your will be done on Earth as it is in heaven, and it’s going to happen one day.

Habakkuk 2:14 Prays For Jesus’ Name To Be Known By All

Indeed, Jesus will wipe away every tear from our eyes. He will be praised as Lord and Savior and King by all nations, tribes, peoples, and languages. The knowledge of the glory of the Lord will cover the Earth. So we pray, our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name in all the Earth. May your kingdom come, may your will be done on Earth as it is in heaven. Cause your name to be known and exalted and enjoyed as holy in all the Earth, over all the Earth. God, cause your kingdom to come, your will to be done on Earth as it is in heaven, like it’s perfectly done in heaven may it be so on Earth.

This Verse Prays For Jesus To Come Save Us From Sin

We know that will only happen, only happen when sin and suffering and death are finally gone, when Jesus returns, when Revelation 21 and 22 is reality. So we pray with Revelation 22, come Lord Jesus, come quickly. We pray, come quickly to save us from this world of sin and suffering. Save us from sin in our own lives and we see it played out in our lives, our families, our churches, and our culture and our country around us. So God, we long to see an end to sin and all of its effects. God, we long for the day when the knowledge of your glory covers the Earth like the waters cover the sea. And all the nations are praising you.

Habakkuk 2:14 Prays For The Bedouins Of Egypt

God, we pray today specifically for the Bedouins in Egypt. Think about the Eastern Bedawi Bedouins in Egypt, over a million of them. Right now, there are none of them, at least that we know. None of them who are followers of Jesus. God, we pray that would change. May your glory spread, your grace, your Gospel spread among the Eastern Bedawi Bedouins in Egypt. So please, oh God, cause your name to be hallowed among them and thousands of other people groups like them where the gospel’s not yet gone. Therefore knowledge of your glory covers the whole Earth.

God, cause the nations to know you, to enjoy you, to exalt you. Use our lives, use our churches toward that purpose, we pray. So God, amidst the darkness of this world, we look forward with total anticipation to the light of your glory and knowledge of your glory filling the Earth. This is our hope. This is our confidence. In fact we know, no matter what happens today, what happens tomorrow, what happens next year, at any point in the future that ultimately this is the future: new heaven, new Earth, knowledge of your glory filling the Earth. Come Lord Jesus, come quickly, we pray in your name. Amen.
