Tremble at God’s Word

It’s possible to hear God’s Word regularly and still lose our sense of awe before it. We can treat Bible reading as an obligation, worship as an event, and God’s voice as background noise. But what would happen if we truly trembled at God’s Word—if hearing Scripture awakened repentance, worship, joy, and a deeper love for God?

David Platt begins in Nehemiah 8, where God’s people listen attentively to the reading of Scripture for hours, stand in reverence, lift their hands, shout “Amen,” and bow down in worship. From there, he turns to Romans 1–8 to show why God’s Word should move us so deeply: it exposes our sin, reveals the righteousness God gives through faith in Jesus, and reminds us that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ.

This kind of response to Scripture is not about creating an emotional experience. It flows from seeing God for who he is and recognizing that his Word gives life. As we encounter his Word, we are called to repentance, faith, obedience, worship, and joyful relationship with him. Rather than allowing the messages of the world to fill our minds, we are invited to treasure, meditate on, and memorize the Word of God.

In this episode:

  • What Nehemiah 8 teaches us about trembling at God’s Word
  • Why hearing Scripture should lead us to repentance and worship
  • How Romans 1–8 reveals our sin and God’s grace in Christ
  • Why biblical Christianity is a relationship with God, not mere religious routine
  • How God’s Word brings joy, hope, freedom, and life
  • Why we should treasure Scripture enough to meditate on and memorize it

Are you approaching God’s Word as an obligation, or are you coming to it hungry to hear from the God who speaks and gives life?
