What does it look like to contend for the gospel in a culture increasingly hostile to biblical truth without losing your own soul in the process?

In this episode of Everyday Radical, David Platt and Austin Huang sit down with Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchell for a deeply personal conversation about prayer, faithfulness, suffering, and the urgent need for Christians to contend for biblical Christianity.

Philip shares why prayer has become the foundation of his life and ministry, tracing that conviction back to hearing his immigrant parents cry out to God in their basement when he was a boy. He reflects on his own conversion at age 24, when God met him at one of the lowest moments of his life, and how a simple commitment to prayer eventually grew into Access, a movement calling thousands of people to seek God together.

The conversation also explores the dangers that come with influence, platforms, and worldly definitions of success. Philip shares lessons God has taught him about viewing ministry as a stewardship rather than something he owns. Together, they discuss why Christian faithfulness cannot be measured by followers, recognition, or visible results. The goal is ultimately to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

But contending for the faith is not only an external battle against false teaching and cultural compromise. Philip explains why Christians must also contend internally, preaching biblical truth to their own hearts in seasons of pain, doubt, discouragement, and suffering. Drawing from his own experiences with criticism and public attacks, he shares how suffering has deepened his intimacy with Jesus and changed the way he understands hardship.

This conversation is a call to a Christianity rooted in prayer, saturated in Scripture, willing to suffer, and determined to remain faithful. In an age of false gospels and spiritual complacency, Philip challenges Christians to contend for the faith while keeping their eyes fixed on Jesus.
