Overwhelming Blessing (Deuteronomy 28:2)

And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God.
—Deuteronomy 28:2

Is that not an awesome verse? Is that not an incredible promise? God tells his people that blessing will come upon them and, listen to the phrase, “will overtake them” when they obey the voice of the Lord their God. Don’t you want to be overtaken by the blessing of God? Don’t you want to describe your life today and tomorrow and the next day this way: “I’m overtaken by his blessing as I walk with God”?

And that’s the key. How do you experience blessing like this? You listen to and obey the voice of the Lord. This is so good. God’s Word brings life. God’s Word brings blessing. God’s Word brings a life overtaken by blessing. Just meditate on that today. We would be foolish to do anything but live fully obedient—or as fully obedient as possible by God’s grace and the power of his Spirit in us.

Help us to obey your Word in every way today, knowing that obeying your voice, O God, will lead to being overtaken by your blessing. Yes, we pray, God, may it be so. I pray this over my life and every single person listening right now. I do not know, obviously, all that is going on in their lives today, but I pray that they would be overtaken by your blessing today as they walk with you.

Help them to walk in step with your Spirit according to your Word. God, help them to be careful to obey you in every thought, every desire, every action, every interaction with others. And as they do, may they be overtaken by your blessing.

O God, we pray that you would help us lead others to be overtaken by your blessing. Help us encourage others with your Word in ways that will lead to blessing in their lives. We pray that you would help us build up brothers and sisters in Christ in this way. Help us share the gospel, knowing eternal blessing is found in this Word that we get to share. God, grant us boldness today to share your Word, your gospel of blessing, of eternal blessing, with others today.

A Prayer for the Kurmanji Kurdish People

And, God, we pray for the spread of your blessing through your Word to the ends of the earth. We pray specifically today for the Kurmanji Kurdish people—16.5 million of them, with only a small percentage knowing your blessing in Jesus. God, we pray; we intercede today for Kurmanji Kurds. Shower your blessing on them. Cause the good news of your grace and mercy in Jesus to spread among them. Raise up laborers to make the good news of your grace and mercy in Jesus, of your eternal blessing, known among the Kurmanji Kurdish people. Please, O God, may it be so.

Even as we pray, help us live overtaken by the blessing that comes through obedience to your Word today. Yes, we pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
