“And Asa cried to the Lord, His God. O Lord, there is none like you to help between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord, our God, for we rely on you. And in your name, we have come against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God. Let not man prevail against you.”
– 2 Chronicles 14:11
And with this prayer, Asa and the people of Judah defeat a million of their enemies in that moment who had gathered together against them. And what a prayer he had prayed. O Lord, there is none like you to help. Help us, O Lord, our God, for we rely on you, just as we prayed in the previous podcast episode, based on 2 Chronicles 13:18. “The men of Judah relied on God.” Here is Asa, relying on God and looking to God for help.
There is nothing we need that anyone or anything else in this world can provide for us like you.
And isn’t that in and of itself an awesome thought, that God is our help. That God is your help today, amidst whatever you’re walking through. Amidst whatever you have on your schedule today or tomorrow, God is available, accessible, wants to be your helper. He wants to help you amidst everything in your life, for you to say to him on a daily basis, “Help me, O God. For I rely on you.” “And in your name,” Asa says, “We have come against this multitude to go forward in the name of God, in the presence of God, with the confidence that only God can bring.” Asa says, “O Lord, you are our God. Let not man prevail against you.” What a picture there.
This Verse Reminds Us God is Our Protector
Asa knows that when he goes into battle, he’s going into battle and God is with him. And so it’s not “let not man prevail against us.” It’s “let not man prevail against you.” What we see as we get into the New Testament and Jesus identifies himself with his church. When he says to Saul, “Why are you persecuting me?” when Saul is persecuting the church. Jesus is basically saying, when you are messing with the church, you’re messing with me. This picture of God, identifying with his people as their help, as their defender, as their provider and protector. This is our God. This is your God today. For all who have trusted in Jesus, this is your God.
So let’s cry together to the Lord, our God. O Lord, there is none like you to help. There is none like you. There’s no God like you and there is no help like you. There’s no wisdom like your wisdom. O God, There’s no power like your power. And there’s no strength like your strength. And there’s no mercy like your mercy. There’s to justice like your justice. Also, there’s nothing we need.
2 Chronicles 14:11 Leads Us to Pray Help Relying on God
There is nothing we need that anyone or anything else in this world can provide for us like you. There’s none like you to help. So help us, O God, we pray, for we rely on you today amidst some of us walking through really hard days. Many of us walking through really busy days.
Some of us walking through really heavy days, we rely on you. And in your name, we walk through these days with your presence with us, God, help us to walk in obedience to your word and your spirit and step with your commands for you are our God. And we know, we know that you are our defender, our protector, our savior, our helper, in every way we need help. all glory be to your name, O God.
Who are we that you would help us, that you would provide for us like this, that you would defend us like this. We have sinned against you. We don’t deserve the mercy that you’ve poured out on us. Jesus, we praise you for fighting the ultimate battle on our behalf against sin and Satan and death and conquering. No foe can stand against you, O God, so we put all our trust in you and we cry to you today. There is none like you, O God, to help, so help us, for we rely on you and we live in your name. We pray all these things in light of 2 Chronicles 14:11. In Jesus’ name, amen.
