Faithful and True (Revelation 19:11–16)

Then I saw heaven opened and behold a white horse, the one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire and on His head are many diadems. And he has a name written that no one knows but Himself. He’s clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which He is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. And He will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury, of the wrath of God the Almighty. On His robe and on His thigh, He has a name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
– Revelation 19:11–16

Oh, Lord Jesus, we praise you. Even reading those verses and praying according to them right now, I’m just overwhelmed. Awed, we are stunned by your glory.

Revelation 19:11–16 teaches us about the justice and righteousness of Christ.

We stand in awe and fear of you and all your majesty. You are King of kings and Lord of lords. And you are coming back to judge and make war and to bring full and final salvation to all who trust in you. Jesus, we say together, we trust in you as the Savior of our sin. As the one whose robe is dipped in blood because you died for our sins. All glory be to your name, Jesus, for dying for our sins… For your love for us, for your mercy toward us, for your salvation in our lives, for the hope we have when we see this scene. We praise you for your faithfulness.

You are called Faithful and True. We praise you, that in the end of history we will look back at our lives and all of history and it will be clear you are Faithful, with a capital F, and True, with a capital T. And Jesus, even as we praise you in all these ways… As the Savior and Lord and King of our lives… As the faithful shepherd of our lives, we pray for people who are not ready for this day.

Revelation 19:11–16 encourages us to pray for those who have not experienced salvation.

We pray for family members of ours, for friends of ours. Just think of their names right now. Call them out before God, for co-workers, classmates of ours. For people we know who don’t know you as Savior and Lord and who on this day will experience the judgment they deserve in their sin. Judgment we deserve, that we would experience were it not for your grace and your mercy in our lives.

God, we pray, help us to share this gospel with them. God, help us to share the gospel with somebody today. The good news of your faithfulness and your truth and your love, your grace and your mercy. So that they’re ready for that day. God, we pray, we ask you for the salvation of our family members, and our friends, and our co-workers and classmates, neighbors who don’t know you. We pray that you would use our lives to lead them to you. And God, we pray for people who’ve never even heard the good news of your grace and your love in Jesus.

Prayer for the Bisaya People

For the Bisaya people, 93,000 of them strong. It’s Muslim people group. God, we pray for the Muslim Bisaya people. God, would they be reached for the goodness of your grace that they might be ready on the day when you return. Lord Jesus, oh God, help us to live today and every day in anticipation of Revelation 19, of the coming of Jesus on a white horse to bring justice and righteousness to the earth. Oh, come Lord Jesus, come quickly and help us to live in eager anticipation of your coming and to live preparing others for your coming. Yes, God, help us to live preparing others for your coming. Even as we ask to prepare our hearts to be ready on this day. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
