An Exhortation for Marriage (Proverbs 5:18)

“Let your fountain be blessed and rejoice in the wife of your youth.”
– Proverbs 5:18

And I’m going to continue on into verse 19 because this is intended to be a G rated podcast and I don’t know if they’re is somebody listening that may have some kids in the car or something right now, so we’ll stop there, but the whole picture here in Proverbs 5, it’s a warning against adultery and it’s an exhortation. That verse. Proverbs 5:18, “Let your fountain be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.” This Proverb beckons husbands, like myself to look at our wives and rejoice in them. So rejoice in the wife God has given to you.

This proverb beckons husbands and wives to look at their spouses and rejoice in them.

Proverbs 5:18 Praises God for His Mercy

Some of you may be divorced and so we come at this picture of marriage and this exhortation for marriage from different perspectives, but we all need to pray in our own lives and for others lives around us for a blessed fountain and a rejoicing husband and with in marriage in the relationships we see around us so, God we pray for this. I pray for this in my marriage. We pray for this in each one our marriages.

For those of us who aren’t married, Lord we praise you for your grace for your mercy, for your bountiful blessing for the fountain of marriage that you have give to us as a gift. So, we pray as husbands, help us to rejoice in the wife our youth. To honor the wife of our youth. To enjoy in every way the wife of our youth. So we pray God for wives to rejoice in the husbands you have given them that you would help wives to honor and respect and love their husbands. Lord, we pray for bountiful marriages filled with blessing. Marriages is not always easy. There’s an adversary in the world that is working right now to rip marriages apart. So, we pray oh God for bountiful blessing in our marriages.

This Verse Keeps Us from Adultery

And for rejoicing in the wife, in the husband you have given to us. Keep us, we pray. Keep us from being intoxicated by the adulterous or the adulterer. So Lord, keep us from being pulled away from the beauty you’ve designed for us in marriage. So we pray you help us to love our spouse glorifying to you and good for us today. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
