Hi, I’m David Platt, and I want to tell you about a new initiative in Radical called Urgent, and I want to invite you individually, as a family, as a church, to be a part of it. Urgent is all about gospel work on the front lines of the most urgent spiritual and physical needs in the world. So, picture urgent physical needs. Places in the world marked by desperate poverty. Places where people are struggling without clean water or food. Places where people are struggling without access to the most basic medical care. And then picture urgent spiritual need. Picture places in the world where the gospel has never gone.
People have never even heard the good news of God’s love in Jesus. People are on a road that leads to everlasting eternal suffering, not just physical suffering on this earth, in this world, but suffering forever in eternity, and they’ve never even heard the good news of how they can experience everlasting life in Jesus. Urgent spiritual need.
Now picture where those two needs collide. Places in the world where urgent physical and spiritual need are interlocked together. That’s where we are working. We have identified indigenous brothers and sisters, men and women, families who live in the midst of urgent spiritual and physical need, who have the gospel and are working for the spread of the gospel in difficult, even dangerous places.
For many reasons, they’re not able to share all that’s going on in those front lines, because it would cause risk to the work that they’re doing. That’s where Radical is stepping into the gap, as we work with these brothers and sisters in Christ and connect them with the resources, with the prayers and the giving of brothers and sisters around the world who want to be a part of work on the front lines.
Countries With Urgent Spiritual And Physical Needs
We’ve identified 12 initial countries that represent this collision of urgent spiritual and physical need. Countries like Yemen, North Korea, Somalia, and I want to invite you, your family, your church, to be a part of work in those places through Urgent. To be a part of making the grace and the love and the mercy, and the goodness and the glory of God known on the front lines of the most urgent spiritual and physical needs in the world.
David Platt serves as a pastor in metro Washington, D.C. He is the founder of Radical.
David received his Ph.D. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and is the author of Don’t Hold Back, Radical, Follow Me, Counter Culture, Something Needs to Change, Before You Vote, as well as the multiple volumes of the Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary series.
Along with his wife and children, he lives in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
