The Paths of the Righteous (Proverbs 2:20)

“So you will walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous.”
– Proverbs 2:20

Oh Proverbs 2:20, what a great prayer to pray. If you’re at the beginning of your day, middle of your day, the end of your day as you think about tomorrow to say, “Oh God, help me to walk in the way of the good.” Who of us doesn’t want to walk in the way of that which is good? Think about that word. It’s pleasing, it’s right, it’s satisfying, it’s enjoyable, it’s to be desired. That which is good is to be desired. That which is fruitful. Which is abundant.

God, help us to walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous. We are prone to wander, but God will keep us for our good and His glory.

This Verse Wants Us To Walk The Righteous Path

Oh, we all want to walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous because these go together. This is kind of the parallel language we see in many different Proverbs. Walking in the way of the good is parallel with keeping to the paths of the righteous so it is good to walk in righteousness. To walk according to God’s Word, that is what is good. That is what is abundant. That is what is satisfying. Is what is to be desired.

Proverbs 2:20 Prays To Walk In The Way Of Good

God, we pray. We pray today for those who are listening and about to go to bed, thinking about tomorrow, help us. Today, tomorrow, to walk in the way of the good. God, please help us to walk in ways that are profitable and productive and fruitful and kind and satisfying and to be desired in ways that are joyful, in ways that are loving, in ways that are peaceful and all of these things are good. Help us to walk in them. God please lead us on this way and help us to keep to the paths of the righteous.

God we know we are prone to wander, we are prone to sin, we are prone to turn from that which is good to that which is bad, to that which is evil. We are prone to turn from your ways to our own ways so please, please keep us in the paths of the righteous. Help us to walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous. And in all of this trust, it will be good for us, it will be good for others, and ultimately we want our ways and our path to be glorifying to you. May it be so we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
