The King Over All the Earth (Zechariah 14:9)

“And the Lord will be King over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one, and His name one.”
– Zechariah 14:9

Yes. Such ends the book of Zechariah. In this chapter from the very beginning chapter 14:1, “Behold a day is coming for the Lord.” And we see this picture of coming judgment and coming restoration promised all throughout this chapter. Right in the middle, we read this simple, significant verse that summarizes where all of world history is headed, “And the Lord will be King over all the earth.” Just say that again. Mark it down, guaranteed this is where all of world history is headed. The Lord, Yahweh, will be King over all the earth.

The Lord of the Whole Earth

The day will come when the Lord will reign over all the earth.

On that day the Lord will be one, what does that mean? The Lord will be one. This is the picture we see back in the beginning of the Old Testament, behold, the Lord your God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. There’s only one God who is worthy of worship. And on this day, it will be clear all the idols of this world will have fallen, will have been shown to be futile.

And it will be clear to all creation, to all nations that the Lord alone is God and He reigns as King over the earth. Now, how does this drive us to pray? This is exactly how Jesus taught us to pray from the very beginning in Matthew 6, “This, then, is how you should pray, ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name in all the earth. Cause your name to be made known in all the earth. Your kingdom come. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.'”

Zechariah 14:9 Prays for God to be Glorified Over all the Earth

Zechariah 14:9, “And the Lord will be King over all the earth.” So God we pray this, we ask this just like Jesus taught us to ask. According to your word in Zechariah 14:9 your promise God we pray, our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name in all the earth. Hallowed be your name in every way in our lives. So God cause your name to be known as holy through our lives. Show your glory through our lives. Help us to glorify you in every way today. This is why we have a breath, let everything that has breath praise the Lord, praise Yahweh. So God use our lives today to point people to you as the one true God. Help us to do good deeds that people might see our good deeds and glorify you in heaven.

So God, help us to proclaim the gospel. We pray so that people might believe in Jesus. Have reconciliation to you. Know you as the one true God. Help us to live oh, God today in every way with God-centered lenses centered on you praying for your kingdom to come. Your will to be done in our lives, in our families, in our churches, on the earth as it is in heaven.

Zechariah 14:9 Hopes for Jesus to Come Quickly

As we wait, we wait for the day, Lord Jesus we pray for the day, your kingdom will come. Come Lord Jesus, come quickly. Above all else, we pray bring and end to sin and suffering and sorrow and pain and hurt and temptation and evil and bring and end to it all. Reign as King over all the earth, may all the nations know that you are King. So God please we pray today for the Southern Baloch people in Oman, for over half a million of them.

There’re very few known believers among the Baloch of Oman. God please bring them to know you, bring them to know you as King, as Lord, as savior. Bring all the nations to know you as King, as Lord and savior. Use our lives, our families, our churches toward that end. We can’t wait, oh God. We can’t wait for the day when all the earth will see that you are the King.

So in anticipation of that day, we pray that you would use our lives to point to you as King today. To point to you as the Lord, God, savior, and King overall. Help us to proclaim this reality to others, help us to live out this reality in our lives. And as we do may this prayer be constant on our lips. What you taught us to pray, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” We pray this according to Matthew 6, Zechariah 14:9 in Jesus’ name. Amen.
