The Counsel and Wisdom of the Lord (Isaiah 28:29)

“This also comes from the Lord of hosts. He is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom.”
– Isaiah 28:29

Isaiah 28:29 Reminds Us We Can Come To God For Wisdom

What a wonderful promise! God, this comes from Him, He is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom, something we all need. All of us need wisdom. I think about my life, I think about every facet of my life. In my personal life, in my family, in my marriage, with my kids, I think about the work that God’s called me to do. I need wisdom in every single level.

Every moment of every day, we can come to the Lord who is excellent in wisdom and perfect in counsel.

I don’t need just wisdom for big decisions, I need wisdom all day long, like moment by moment. Isaiah 28 promises that God is wonderful in counsel. Don’t you love talking with somebody, and they just give great counsel, and you think, “Oh, that was so encouraging.” So you go back to that person later and they give great counsel again, and great counsel again. Or you talk to somebody and it’s like, “Wow, that person is so wise! I’m just so thankful for that person in my life because they just pour wisdom into me that I need to hear.” So Isaiah 28:29 is saying, “Look up to the Lord of hosts. He is wonderful in counsel and excellent, He’s excellent in wisdom.”

Isaiah 28:29 Leads Us To Praise God For Being Our Counselor

So we pray together then today. God, we look to You as our Counselor. We praise You for even calling Your Spirit in us the Counselor, not just in big decisions but the moment by moment counsel You give us, by Your Spirit. God, we praise You for Your excellence in wisdom. We praise You for that in Your Word. Help us to abide in Your Word, and in that way to abide in Your wisdom. We pray that You would form our thoughts and our desires by Your counsel and Your wisdom.

This Verse Leads Us To Ask God For Help When Counseling Others

Then, oh God, we pray that You would help us to give that kind of counsel, and share that kind of wisdom with others. We pray that You would help us to be good counselors to people around us, to pour wisdom into others that comes from You. God, we praise You as the Lord of hosts for the confidence we can have in this world, that The One who alone is truly excellent in wisdom, The One whose counsel is always perfect, that we have the privilege of coming to You, right now and every moment, all day long. We can come to You, we can know Your Spirit, the Counselor is in us. Your Word is given to us and that You will lead and guide and direct us by Your counsel, with Your wisdom, for our good and for Your glory. Oh God, we praise you.
