Relying on God Through Prayer (2 Chronicles 14:11)
And Asa cried to the Lord his God, “O Lord, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God; let not man prevail against you.”
—2 Chronicles 14:11
And with this prayer, Asa and the people of Judah defeated a million of their enemies in that moment who had gathered together against them.
What a prayer! “Oh Lord, there’s none like you to help. Help us, oh Lord our God, for we rely on you.” Just as 2 Chronicles 13:18 says, the men of Judah relied on God. Here’s Asa relying on God and looking to God for help. And isn’t that in and of itself an awesome thought, that God is our help?
2 Chronicles 14:11 reminds us to seek God’s help every day.
Just let this soak in in a fresh way right now in your heart today. God is your help today. He’s your help amidst whatever you’re walking through, whatever you have on your schedule today or tomorrow. God is available, accessible, wants to be your helper, wants to help you amidst everything in your life. For you to say to him on a daily basis, “Help me, oh God, for I rely on you.”
“And in your name,” Asa says, “We’ve come against this multitude…” to go forward in the name of God, in the presence of God, with the confidence that only God can bring. Asa says, “Oh Lord, you are our God. Let not man prevail against you.” Asa knows when he goes into battle, he’s going into battle not alone.
God’s with him. So it’s not, “Let not man prevail against us.” It’s, “Let not man prevail against you.” And what we see as we get into the New Testament is Jesus identifies himself with his church when he says to Saul, “Why are you persecuting me?” When Saul is persecuting the church, Jesus is basically saying, “When you’re messing with the church, you’re messing with me.”
2 Chronicles 14:11 reveals God’s unmatched power, mercy, and wisdom.
This picture of God identifying with his people as their Help, as their Defender, their Provider, their Protector. This is your God. This is our God today for all who trust in Jesus. So we cry together to him, “Oh Lord, there is none like you to help.”
There’s none like you. There’s no god like you, and there’s no help like you. Lord, there’s no wisdom like your wisdom, oh God. There’s no power like your power. There’s no strength like your strength. God, there’s no mercy like your mercy. No justice like your justice. No hope like your hope. Oh God, you are the one we need over and above anyone or anything else in this world. There is none like you to help.
So we pray, “Help us.” We rely on you today amidst whatever we’re walking through. Many of us walking through hard days, busy days, many of us walking through heavy days, or many of us walking through great days. In it all, we rely on you, and in your name, we walk through these days with your presence with us. So help us to walk in obedience to your Word and your Spirit, to stay in step with your Word and your Spirit in everything we do, knowing you’re our Defender, our Protector, our Savior, our helper in every single moment.
Oh God, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And God, we pray, help us to lead others to you as their help. God, help us to point other brothers and sisters in Christ today to you, to be a help to them by pointing them to you as their helper. And God, to have boldness. By your grace, by your Spirit in us, help us to have boldness to share your love with people around us today and to spread your love to the ends of the earth.
A Prayer for the Jakun People
Lord, help us to spread the gospel to the Jakun people of Malaysia. God, for 35,000 of them. God, we pray for the Jakun people to be reached. We intercede for them right now.
Please help all those who are in Malaysia, and others that you’re raising up from different parts of the world to spread the gospel in Malaysia. God, we pray for the Jakun people to be reached with the good news of your grace, that they might know you as their Helper, their Savior, and their Lord. Oh God, we pray all this to you, our helper, according to your Word in 2 Chronicles 14:11. In Jesus’ name, amen.
