Praising the Redeemer (Isaiah 54:5)

“For your maker is your husband. The Lord of hosts is his name. And the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer. The God of the whole earth he is called.”
– Isaiah 54:5

Is this not an awesome verse? Just hear all the different titles for God and not just for who he is, but who he is in relationship to you and me, to all who trust in him. He is your maker, the one who formed you, fastened you, created you. Your maker is your husband. This picture of the marriage relationship between God and his people, that as a husband loves his wife, so God loves you. He is the Lord of hosts, the Lord of heavenly armies and angels. That’s his name. He’s the Lord of hosts. He is the Holy One of Israel. So that’s the fourth title for God here. The perfect one who reigns over his people.

Isaiah 54:5 Reminds Us God is Without Error

The Holy One, the one who is without error, the one who is without equal, the incomparable one. What we read in Isaiah, chapter 40, “”To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?” Says the Holy One.” He is your Redeemer. That’s the fifth title. He’s the one who redeems you, saves you, makes that which is wrong, right. And then sixth title, in just one verse, the God of the whole earth he is called. He’s the God of the whole earth. Don’t you just love praying according to God’s word? This is one verse and there is so much to pray according to in it. Let’s just praise God together for all of these attributes.

Isaiah 54:5 Praises God for Who He Is

Let’s just praise God together for who he is. “God, we pause in light of Isaiah, 54, verse five right now and we praise you as our maker. We praise you for forming and fashioning us with your own hands, for intricately weaving us together in our mother’s wombs. God, we praise you as our maker, our creator, the author of our life. We praise you as our husband. Lord Jesus, we are your bride and we’re so glad to be your bride.

We praise you for loving us, for laying down your life to make us your husband, to bring us into a covenant relationship with you that is sure, surer than any marriage could ever be in this world, an ultimate marriage covenant with you as God. The Lord of hosts, we glorify you as the Lord of heavenly armies, the Lord of angels surrounded right now by myriads and myriads of angels worshiping you. This is your name. You’re the Lord of hosts. You’re the Holy One. There is no one like you. No one compares to you in your greatness, in your beauty, in your glory, in your majesty and your love.”

This Verse Declares the Lord’s Holiness

“All of your attributes are holy. All of your attributes are perfect. Lord, all of your attributes are incomparable. We praise you as the Holy One, our Redeemer, the one who has saved us from our sins, the lamb who was slain to pay the price for our sins to redeem us, to purchase us for God, we praise you, oh Lord God, our Redeemer. And as the God of the whole earth, there is nothing that you are not God over.

You are Supreme in every way, reigning over everything and we worship you. Our maker, our husband, the Lord of hosts, the Holy One, our Redeemer, the God of the earth you are called. We praise and worship you in Jesus’s name according to your word in Isaiah 54, verse five. Amen.”
