Who in Church History Would David Platt Like to Meet?

Who outside of the Bible would I want to meet from church history? So, the names that come to my mind are on different levels. So theologically, I would obviously love to sit down with Jonathan Edwards and just… I don’t even know how to even begin to soak in, but not just theologically.

The way that even played out in his life personally, and from what I’ve read about his family, to see this wonderful, gracious picture of theological acumen, passion for the Lord, passion and love for his wife, love and care for his children. How do you all? I mean, that’s just the essentials when I think about those kind of things. I would love to talk to Jonathan Edwards.

I’d love to talk with Adoniram Judson. I’d love to talk with him having seen wives pass away on the field, children pass away on the mission field, having labored and served and toiled for the spread of the gospel in the midst of deep suffering in a place that was totally unreached. And I’d love to talk with Adoniram Judson about all the Lord had taught him, shown him in that, and how to… I want to see more and more, and more, and more Adoniram Judsons in our day raised up to go to the unreached. And so, I’d love to talk to him on that level.

Figures in Church History

And then just on a pastoral level, I would love to talk with Charles Spurgeon. I mean, I quote him all the time. I read stuff from him all the time, and he did so much on so different levels, yes pastorally, but then flowing from his service as a pastor in so many different areas and walk through a lot of suffering in the middle of that. And so, I’d love to sit down and talk with him just pastor to pastor. So, those are some of the people that come to my mind that I’d love to talk to from church history.
