What are Subtle Manifestations of Racism?

Racism is not always going to be blatantly obvious. In this video, Trillia Newbell explains the subtle manifestations of racism that occur within our hearts, minds, and churches. As Christians, we have the responsibility of asking the Lord to reveal within us any unclean thoughts or beliefs we may have. If we are in constant denial or resistance that we could be exhibiting racism, that should be a red flag that we need to ask the Lord to help us in our pride and examine our hearts. Newbell encourages examining every area of our lives as we seek to love deeply and to call out any forms of racism within us.

Subtle Manifestations of Racism

I think one area that, there’s a couple that we may see racism and we aren’t aware that this is actually racism. I think if you don’t believe that interracial marriage is okay, you might want to check and ask the Lord to reveal in your heart if there is something in there that is actually racist, and that’s why you’re resisting it.

Manifestations of Racism

Because the Lord, there’s nothing in scripture that says that interracial marriage is not okay. So I’d say that’s one of those subtle ways that people continue to be racist and they don’t know it. Another one is really simple. We can look at our lunch tables. We can look at who we invite into our homes. We can look at who we go to after church. Who are we inviting to at church? Who are we tempted to segregate ourselves off with and ask, okay, so is there something behind that? If it’s fear, okay, we can fight fear. If it’s racist, then we need to ask the Lord to help us with our pride and ask him to reveal that in our hearts.
