Unstoppable Kingdom Work (Acts 28:30–31)
He lived there two whole years at his own expense, and welcomed all who came to him, proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.
– Acts 28:30–31
Thus, the Book of Acts ends. What a picture of this story of the spread of the gospel. It all started in Acts 1 with Jesus saying to His disciples, “You’re going to receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you’re going to be eyewitnesses from Jerusalem to Judea and Samaria to the ends of the Earth”. And then they gather together, about 120 of them, and devote themselves to prayer in Jerusalem. That’s how it starts. That’s Acts 1.
Acts 28:31 shows the gospel advancing without hindrance.
And now Acts 28:31. The gospel has now spread from Jerusalem throughout Judea and Samaria, and it’s going to the ends of the Earth.
Here is Paul, who has been making disciples in multiplying churches. Paul, who by the way, was persecuting Christians and has now become the biggest proponent for Jesus and the gospel to the ends of the Earth. He’s in Rome, where obviously it’s the capital of the Roman Empire, and the gospel is spreading out. And I love the last word in the Book of Acts. It says, “without hindrance” here in the ESV version of Acts 28:31, and the word literally is unhindered. That’s how the Holy Spirit inspires the Book of Acts to end with the word unhindered.
In other words, nothing can stop the gospel of Jesus Christ from spreading to the ends of the Earth. And that’s not just the story of the Book of Acts. That’s the story of your life and my life today because we’re a part of this story. We are now the Church in our day in the 21st century, and we are proclaiming the Kingdom of God, spreading the good news about Jesus Christ with boldness and without hindrance, unhindered.
Acts 28:31 Shows us that nothing can stop the gospel.
There is nothing in this world that can stop the spread of the gospel of the Kingdom to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people in the world through you and me when we give ourselves to this mission. So let’s do it. Let’s pray for this, let’s give to this. Let’s go today, where we live, and gather with churches for the spread of the gospel of the Kingdom. Then, let’s scatter from our churches where we live for the spread of the gospel of the Kingdom in the cities where we live and from those cities to the ends of the Earth. However God wants to use our lives, our families, our churches, to make this gospel known to the ends of the Earth unhindered. God, we pray for that. We pray today for that Word over Your Church and the spread of the gospel in our day.
God, we pray that you would break down obstacles, barriers, walls, by the power of the gospel to its spread right around us. We pray for people we know in our lives, in our communities, people will interact with today who don’t know You. God, we pray for the spread of the gospel through us today. We pray for the spread of the gospel through our lives, through our families, through our churches. We pray that as we gather together in our churches, the gospel would be proclaimed and it would go out unhindered and people would be saved today. And God, we pray for this in every corner of the Earth.
A Prayer for the Bedouin Arab People
We pray for Bedouin Arabs in Saudi Arabia today. Oh God, for 3 million Bedouin Arabs in the world from Saudi Arabia. That you would cause the gospel to go unhindered throughout Bedouin Arabs in Saudi Arabia. That the Church might be planted there, that the gospel might be proclaimed and believed.
God, we pray the gospel would go unhindered through the Bedouin areas in Saudi Arabia to other people groups in Saudi Arabia, and far beyond throughout the Middle East to every corner of the Earth. We pray for this, oh God, even as we praise you for the privilege, the joy You’ve given us in this time to be a part of the unhindered spread of Your Kingdom.
So we lay our lives down in a fresh way today, and we pray that You would use us however You want. May we proclaim this good news, share this good news with all boldness and without hindrance around us, and may You use our lives, our resources, our time, our money, our families and our churches to make this unhindered gospel known to the ends of the Earth. We pray all this according to Your Word in Acts 28:31. In Jesus’ Name, amen. May it be so. We pray.
