Unfailing God (Exodus 6:6–8)

Say therefore to the people of Israel, “I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment. I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. I will bring you into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. I will give it to you for a possession. I am the Lord.”
– Exodus 6:6–8

I don’t know if you were able to keep count. But I counted seven times in these three verses where God uses the words, I will. These verses are just filled with promises from God. I’m going to do this, I’m going to do this, I’m going to do this. And Moses is learning, that when God makes promises, you can bank your life on what he has said. And that’s the encouragement I want to give you today.

Exodus 6:6–8 portrays God’s faithfulness as the foundation for daily life.

I was just thinking this morning about all the promises of God that are a rock-solid foundation for me to stand on today. Just think about that. You and I have so much confidence. obviously humble confidence. But confidence nonetheless because of the promises of God. We have strength because of the promises of God. And we have peace because of the promises of God.

We don’t have to worry about this or that, because of God’s promises to be with us, to lead us, to guide us, to direct us. We don’t have to worry about death itself because we have promises that he’s the Resurrection and the Life. And even when we die, we’ll live like we’re filled with promises from God. Just think of all the “I wills” that God has said to you and me that form a foundation for our lives daily.

I just want to encourage you to bank your life today and every day on those promises. And your time alone with God. When you read through his Word, notice promises. Reflect on promises. And remember. “Okay, I can live today with humble confidence, joy, peace, strength, and freedom from worry.” Why? Because of these specific promises. Because of I will statements from God that fill his Word to you and me.

Exodus 6:6–8 pictures God’s covenantal love in action.

Oh God, we praise you for your promises, for all your good promises. I even just think about Matthew 28:20. And your last words in that book. “I will be with you always to the end of the age.” Just to think that right now as we’re praying… That you’re being faithful to that promise. You are with us. And not just with us. Lord, you are in us. And you promise to give us everything we need throughout today for whatever we face. You promise to give us wisdom as we look to you. Whenever we ask you for wisdom, you promise to give it to us. You promise to give us strength. You promise that we can do all things today through the strength you put inside of us by your Spirit.

God, you promise to give us peace that passes all understanding as we lift our request to you with thanksgiving. You promise to give us hope no matter how dark anything might be today, you promise that you have overcome the world so we can take heart in a world of tribulation no matter what comes our way.

This verse teaches us to trust in God’s faithfulness.

We praise you for your promise to give us eternal life today, for the next 10 trillion years, and beyond far beyond death. God, we praise you for your promises and your faithfulness to all your promises. So help us we pray, to live today with humble confidence in your promises to live out the reality of what it means to stand on your promises.

God help us to encourage others with your promises. Help us to encourage other brothers and sisters in Christ today with promises from your Word. Help us to lead others to your promises. Everyone who calls in the name of the Lord will be saved. You’ll save anyone who trusts in you. God, we pray you use our lives today to lead others to trust in you, to call on your name, and believe your promise that they will be saved. And God, we pray this for all the nations of the earth.

Prayer for the Mehtar Valmiki People

We pray specifically today for the Mehtar Valmiki people in India, 143,000 Hindu men, women, and children, no known followers of Jesus among them. God, we pray that that would change. We pray that the promises of Jesus would be made known to the Mehtar Valmiki people in India. That they would be reached with the good news of your promise of love for them, salvation for them. God, we pray that you would raise up your Church.

Use us as your Church to get the gospel, and to all the people groups of the world that they might know the God who says “I will” and is always faithful to do what you have said. We pray all this in light of your Word, which we love in Exodus 6:6–8. In Jesus’ name and the name of the One in whom all of your promises find their yes. Amen.
