Trusting God’s Guidance (Psalm 143:8)

Let me hear, in the morning, of your steadfast love for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go for to you I lift up my soul.
– Psalm 143:8

Oh, what a great verse. What a great verse to start a day with. Let me hear, in the morning, of your steadfast love. What a great way to wake up, listening to, hearing about the steadfast love of God. This is exactly what the Bible teaches when it talks about, in Lamentations, the mercies of the Lord, the steadfast love of the Lord being new every morning.

Psalm 143:8 encourages us to seek God before starting our day.

This is why it is so important to spend some kind of time with the Lord in his Word at the beginning of our day. Even if it’s just a few minutes and you spend more time later in the morning or later in the day. But to hear, in the morning, of the steadfast love of God, for his voice to be what we hear first, not all the other voices in this world, but to hear the voice of God first in our minds, in our hearts.

Let me hear, in the morning, of your steadfast love for in you I trust. Oh, we’re just reminded every morning. When we wake up, we hear of his steadfast love. We think about all that’s going on in our lives and we can say, “God, I trust in you. I’ve heard of your steadfast love in a fresh way this morning and I trust in you.”

Psalm 143:8 challenges us to let God direct our schedules.

And then, the second part of verse eight, “Make me know the way I should go for to you I lift up my soul.” What a great way to begin the day. “Lord, today, make me know the way I should go.” One of the things I try to do in my time with the Lord each morning is just to pray through the day, to think through the people I will be interacting with, any meetings I have, any things I have on the to-do list, as well as things I don’t know are coming. So just praying for sensitivity to God’s Spirit and ways he may redirect my schedule for the day, but to pray through it.

And to pray Psalm 143:8, “Make me know the way I should go. Help me to walk in your way for to you I lift up my soul.” Yes, memorize this verse and let it be your practice every day, hear, in the morning, of the steadfast love of God. Say to him, “I trust in you.” And ask him to make known to you the way you should go as you lift up your soul to him. Oh God, we pray this.

Today, for those of us who may be praying this early in the morning or whenever we pray it, God help us to hear, every morning, your steadfast love, to attune our minds and our hearts to your Word about your love for us that we might abide in your love, John 15, from the moment we wake up for in you we trust.

This verse invites us to humbly seek God’s will for our daily lives.

Oh God, we trust in your steadfast love. And God, we ask you to make known to us the way we should go. In the little things of our lives, just our daily schedule, make known to us, lead us, guide us by your Spirit. And God, as we make significant decisions in our lives, we praise you for your promise to help us, lead us, guide us in those, make known to us the way we should go.

I pray for anyone now who’s making significant decisions in their lives, Lord, make known to them the way they should go as they lift up their souls to you. Oh God, help us to live in Psalm 143:8 from the beginning of our days. And God, in this, we know your way is to make disciples of the nations, that this is what you’ve called us to do today, wherever we live, help us to be faithful to do that. Even as we pray, make us know the way we should go. We know the way we should go. Help us to be holy and pure. And help us to be witnesses by the power of your Holy Spirit to the gospel today. And God, we pray for this around the world.

Prayer for the Saramaccan People

We pray specifically today for the Saramaccan people of Suriname, for this small group of 32,000 people. I say small, oh God, you know every single one of these 32,000 men, women, and children. 32,000 souls who don’t know about your grace and your love in Jesus. We intercede for them right now. And pray that the Saramaccan people of Suriname would be reached with the good news of your steadfast love. That they might be able to wake up and live all day in your love in Jesus. We pray all this according to your Word, which we love in Psalm 143:8. In Jesus’ name, amen.
