The Promises of God (Exodus 6:6–8)

“Say, therefore, to the people of Israel, ‘I am the Lord and I will bring you out from under burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm with great acts of judgment. I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you should know that I am the Lord your god, who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. I will bring you into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. I will give it to you for possession. I am the Lord.'”
– Exodus 6:6–8

Exodus 6:6–8 Reminds Us That God Will

Did you hear it seven different times? God says, “I will. I will. I will,” over, and over, and over again. God says, “I will do this for you. I will do this for you. I will do this for you.” These are promises from God that He is giving to His people, before their exodus from Egypt, before their deliverance out of slavery in Egypt. God is promising them to he will do it here in Exodus 6:6–8.

You can trust God. He has shown time and time again that He always delivers on His promises.

When I hear these promises from God, just back, to back, to back, to back, to back, in these three verses, I just pause and I think about all of God’s promises to you and me today, all of the, “I wills,” that God has spoken into our lives right now, that are realities in our lives.  In this case He has said, “I will be with you. I will hear you when you call to me. I will provide for you. I will sustain you. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. I will show myself faithful to all of these promises. I will love you.  I will care for you. I will give you everything you need according to the glorious riches that are in Christ Jesus.”

We can go on, and on, and on for hours just thinking about promises from God in His Word. So as God says these, “I wills,” to us, we can know, just like He would prove Himself faithful in Exodus in all these ways, He will prove Himself faithful in all these same ways in our lives today.

Exodus 6:6–8 Shows A Way to Live With Security

This is a glorious way to live. What greater security is there in this world than walking day by day confident in the promises of God, all the “I wills,” of God? Because of these promises you and I have nothing to worry about. I don’t say that tritely. I know there’s all kinds of challenges that we walk through in our lives. Furthermore, those challenges take on a whole new perspective when we think about them in light of all the, “I will,” promises that God has given to us. I just want to encourage you, even as we pray together, to trust in the faithfulness of God to keep all of His promises to you today.

God, we praise you for all the, “I will,” promises that we see all over the Bible. So we praise you for your promise to be with us. We trust in that right now. As we’re praying to you, you promise to hear us when we call. You’re listening to us right now. We know that, because of your promise to do that. God, we praise you for your promise to give wisdom when we ask for it. In James, we praise you for your promise that nothing can separate us from your love.

Exodus 6:6–8 Encourages Us To Rest In God’s Promises

We lean on that today, oh God.  Therefore, we will praise you for your promise to give us strength to overcome temptation. We need your faithfulness to that promise today, oh God. So We’ll praise you for your promise to help us, to strengthen us. We need your strength. We pray for your promises to satisfy us. When we come to you, we will never be thirsty again. Certainly we will find in you the depth of satisfaction that our souls long for. Oh God, for all these promises, we praise you.

So we will pray you help us to trust in every single one of them today. God, when we begin to worry, we pray that you would bring to our mind your promises to help us, lead us, guide us, and direct our paths to make them straight. God, we praise you for the rock solid foundation, security, that we find in your promises and your faithfulness to keep them in our lives today.  Therefore we bank our lives on your, “I will,” statements today. In Jesus’s name we pray. Amen.
