Our Faithful Intercessor (Hebrews 7:25)
Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
– Hebrews 7:25
What an amazing phrase—that Jesus lives to make intercession for all who know him as Savior and Lord. Think about what that means. In Hebrews 7, the author is explaining that Jesus is the great high priest whose blood is sufficient to cover all our sins. Let that sink in afresh today: when you trust in Jesus, you are no longer counted guilty before God. You are clothed in the righteousness of Christ.
He is our intercessor. He stands in the gap for us. His sacrifice covers every sin, giving us a wide-open invitation to walk with God, worship God, and live in the presence of God at all times.
Hebrews 7:25 shows the constant advocacy of our great high priest.
Then think about what this means as we walk through life’s challenges. Where is Jesus right now? He is at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us. Romans 8 says exactly this—that Jesus is at the Father’s right hand, interceding for everything we need.
I do not know what you need today. I do not know what you are walking through. But I know this: Jesus—the great high priest who paid the price for all your sins—is right now at the Father’s right hand, living to intercede for you and to provide for everything you need today.
You and I can face anything today—anything this world throws at us—if we believe that Jesus is living, at every moment, to intercede for us.
Hebrews 7:25 calls us to rest in Jesus’ constant ministry for us.
O God, we praise you for this reality. We praise you for Hebrews 7:25. Jesus, we praise you for your death on the cross for our sins, for your resurrection, for your ascension into heaven, for your seat right now at the Father’s right hand, and for your ministry of intercession—this moment and every moment of our lives.
I pray for every brother and sister in Christ listening right now: may they feel the force, the wonder, the weight, the beauty, the strength, and the peace that flow from knowing you are living to intercede for them today—to provide for them and help them in every way they need, today and tomorrow, and the next day, and all the days until you bring us home.
We praise you as our intercessor. And we say with Paul in Romans 8: if you are for us in this way, what can stand against us? Thank you for this confidence. Help us live in it. Help us lead others to find life in your intercession, in your sacrifice for sin, and in your love for them.
A Prayer for the Turkish Cypriot People
And, God, we pray for the nations. We intercede—standing in the gap—for Turkish Cypriot men, women, and children. For nearly half a million of them in Turkey and scattered in places like the UK, we pray that they would come to know you as the Savior who died for them, rose for them, and lives to intercede for them. Bring them to hear the gospel, understand it, and believe.
We intercede for the Turkish Cypriot people even as we praise you, Jesus, for living to intercede for us.
We pray this in your name, according to Hebrews 7:25. Amen.
