Love Is Never Wasted (Mark 14:9)

And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.” (Mark 14:9)

What a statement! So this is right after this woman with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard—very costly. That’s the way Mark describes her, and this costly perfume that she pours out over Jesus’s head. And people are indignant. They’re mad because they’re saying she’s wasted it. And Jesus says, “Leave her alone. She has done a beautiful thing to me”… and talks about how she was anointing his body beforehand for burial. And Jesus is about to go to the cross. And then he makes this statement in verse 9: “Wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.”

Mark it down: You will never, ever, ever regret spending your life in love for Jesus, pouring out your heart for Jesus. You will never regret loving God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind and all your strength. In fact, the opposite. You cannot imagine, you have no idea, what God will do in and through your life when it’s poured out in love and adoration and affection for God. So I want to lead us to pray today in a fresh way based on this picture in Mark chapter 14 verse 9.

Mark 14:9 SHOWS US A Beautiful Offering of Love for Jesus

God, we worship you. Jesus, we adore you. We exalt you. We love you. We praise you. We glorify you. We give you honor and praise and glory because you are worthy. We praise you for dying on the cross for our sins. Jesus, we praise you for rising from the dead. We praise you for your power over sin and evil and death. We praise you for saving us from our sins and saving us from death, for giving us eternal life. We praise you as our Lord and our God. We love You as our Lord and our God, and we pray that you would help us to love you with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength, knowing this is where life is found.

And God, we pray that you would use our lives, lived in love for you, in ways far beyond what we could ask or imagine today. And we pray specifically, oh God, that you would use our lives for the spread of your glory in the world. In light of Mark 14 verse 9, we pray right now for the Bhabra People of India; this people group marked by Jain traditions; small—36,000—but no known followers of Jesus among them. God, we pray, we pray for the spread of your love to the Bhabra people. We want your name to be glorified, Jesus, among the Bhabra people and all the peoples of the world.

God, please use our prayers, our lives, our resources, our time, our talents, our treasure for the spread of your love in the world, just like you did with this woman in Mark chapter 14. We pray this all in Jesus’s name. Amen.
