Living by the Spirit (Galatians 5:25)

If we live by the spirit, let us also keep in step with the spirit.
– Galatians 5:25

What a great phrase to lodge a way in your heart and your mind. Actually two phrases. So living by the spirit. What does that look like? What would it look like in your life today to say, I just want to live by the spirit all day long. Well, we see at the end of Galatians 5:25 what that is. It’s keeping in step with the spirit. What a great prayer to pray at the start of any day, every day. Even as we go to bed at night, at all times throughout the day. God keep me in step with your spirit. Let’s just start praying that right now. God, in everything we think today, please keep us in step with your spirit. God, may our every desire, everyone be in step with your spirit.

We are Called to be Led by God’s Spirit

God, we pray for every word. We want our every word to be led by your spirit, to be in step with your spirit. We don’t want to say anything that would grieve your holy spirit today. And we don’t want to think anything, desire anything, say anything, we don’t want to do anything that would not be in step with your spirit. God, we pray that our every step we take, every action, everything we do, God, we pray that it would be in with your spirit. They would be led by your spirit, guided by your spirit, in line with your word. We know your spirit and we know this is not just up to subjective notions.

We know we have your word that tells us how your spirit is leading us to live. So God help us to keep and step with your spirit it by obeying your word today. And then when we make decisions or do things and we don’t have a specific word from you in the Bible about what to do, when to do this or that, God, we pray that your spirit would lead and guide it all.

Galatians 5:25 Leads Us to Pray to the Lord

We praise you for your spirit in us, for the life we have by your spirit. We live by your spirit today, God. What a gift that you’ve not left us alone. That you have put your holy spirit inside of us for all of us who have trusted in Jesus. That we are your sons and daughters and we have your spirit in us. So don’t let us do anything today apart from your spirit’s leadership and guidance and blessing and wisdom. God, may the mark of our lives today be that we kept in step with your spirit and tomorrow and the next day and the next day, because we know this is where life is found. Please lead us by your spirit, and keep us in step with your spirit in all that we do. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
