Commissioned By God (Micah 4:1–2)

“It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and it shall be lifted up above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it, and many nations shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.”
– Micah 4:1–2

Those verses are awesome. Did you get the picture there? This is prophecy in Micah about a day coming when the word of the Lord will go out from Jerusalem to the nations and the peoples who will say, “Teach us the ways of the God of Jacob, that we may walk in his paths.” That was prophecy in 4:1–2. Now, fast forward to Jesus in Acts 1 in Jerusalem telling his disciples right before he has sins into heaven, “You will receive power from the Holy Spirit, and you will be my witnesses from Jerusalem to Judea, to Samaria, to the ends of the earth, to all the peoples, to all the nations.” What he told his disciples on that mountainside in Matthew 28, “Go and make disciples of all the nations, of all the peoples, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Micah 4:1–2 Foreshadows God’s Plan to Reach the Nations

That’s the picture here in Micah 4:2, that he may teach us his ways. The nations are saying this, that we may walk in his path. Do you realize this commission that we are a part of today making disciples of the nations, this commission that every single one of us has been invited to be a part of? This is not just for a few Christians, this is for every single follower of Jesus. You and I are a part of a mission that God has been working all throughout history, has been promising would be a reality that we are a part of fulfilling, making disciples of all the nations, teaching all the nations to obey him, that they may walk in his paths.

Micah 4:1–2 Reminds Us We are to Be Part of God’s Mission

God, we say in a fresh way today yes to this commission. Yes, we want to make disciples of all the nations. God, help us to make disciples today in our homes, the places where we work, the cities where we live. Lord, help us to make disciples, to lead people to you. Help us to baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God help us to teach them everything that you’ve commanded us. God, we want to be faithful to this commission right where we live today and to the ends of the earth, that all the nations and all the peoples might hear your word.

Praying For the Aringa People of Uganda

God, we pray today specifically for the Aringa people of Uganda, this group of 650,000 Muslims, among whom there are some coming to know Jesus, among whom some amidst whom disciples have now been made and churches have been planted, yet most are still unreached by the gospel. God, we pray for the spread of your grace and your word going out to the Aringa people of Uganda. Lord, all the people groups we pray for in this podcast, God, we lift them before you. We pray you bring them to yourself, cause the gospel to go to them. God, raise up witnesses who will go to them, use our resources and our praying to undergird them.

God, we pray that all the nations of the world may all walk in your path. Lord, that they be taught your ways as your word goes out to the ends of the earth. Lord, we praise you for the privilege of being part of this mission that you’ve been working throughout history. Help us to faithfully play our part. We pray, each of us, in Jesus’ name according to your word in Micah 4:1–2, amen.

LESS THAN 1% OF ALL MONEY GIVEN TO MISSIONS GOES TOWARDS REACHING THE UNREACHED.

That means that the people with the most urgent spiritual and physical needs are receiving the least support. You can help change that!
