“Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said. But him they did not see. And he said to them, “oh, foolish ones and slow of heart to believe all of the prophets have spoken. Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the prophets he interpreted to them and all the scriptures, the things concerning himself.”

I love this conversation on the Ameas road with these men who are unknowingly talking with Jesus about Jesus. And in Luke 24:24–27, this is such an important verse for understanding the entire Bible. When Jesus started with Moses and all the prophets and he interpreted to them in all the scriptures, the things concerning himself, things about Jesus is what Moses and all the prophets were writing about. That they were talking, they were writing about me, Jesus says. Although they don’t realize this is Jesus at that point.
The whole Bible is about Jesus. Everything on the landscape of human history revolves around Him. His first coming changed everything, and His second coming will consummate everything.
Luke 24:24–27 Teaches Us the Beauty of the Bible
This is the beauty of the Bible. Oh, there’s so many things that make the Bible glorious as the word of God, but one of those things is the unity of the Bible. How it all points to Jesus. All of it from beginning to end and everywhere in between.
This book, written over multiple centuries by multiple authors, human authors that is, inspired by one divine author to give one overarching plot story and not just overarching, but every single detail like we’ve seen in so many of these different passages in the Advent season. They’re all pointing forward to one man or pointing back to one man who he is, Jesus’ life, his death, his resurrection. The whole Bible is about him.
Luke 24:24–27 Reminds Us the Centrality of Christ
He’s not just the center of the Bible. He’s the center of history. And he’s the center of the whole world. Everything, everything revolves around Jesus on the landscape of human history. He reigns supreme.
So we pray. Jesus, You are unlike any other. All of history before you points to you. All of history after you points back to you. Your first coming changed everything. Your second coming will consummate everything. Everything in history revolves around you, everything in the Bible points to you. So as we read your word, as we pray according to your word day after day, after day after day, help us to know you more, Lord Jesus. Help us to love you more. Help us to desire you more, to look more and more like you.
This Verse Leads the Lord to Conform Us More Into the Image of Christ
God, please conform us more into the image of Jesus. Lord, help us to think more like Jesus, to love more like Jesus, to speak more like Jesus, to live more like Jesus every single day, knowing that all the scripture in all of history points to you.
We long for the day, we look forward to the day when we will see your face. And we will be like you, conformed completely into your image. You are the center of it all and we worship you will help us to live with you at the center of our lives today, in every way. As we work, as we play, as we rest everything we do, keep our minds fixed on you. Keep our attention tuned to you. Oh God, help us to live Jesus centered lives. Today we pray in his name, Amen.
