“May they be secure who love you. Peace be within your walls and security within your towers.”
– Psalm 122:6–7
Secure, peace, security. So these words used three different times together and in Psalm 122:6–7 to give a clear picture that all who love God are secure and have peace.
Psalm 122:6–7 Reminds Us We Have Security In Christ
Because of Christ, even death cannot breach the security we have in Him.
Like I remember reading these Psalm 122:6–7 on a day when I heard about, to speak pretty generally, but a pretty massive security breach that was affecting a ton of different people including me. And people were all concerned about this or that, what was going to happen and we were just all reminded like we can do everything we can to try to be secure, to try to guard security in this world. But there are people, there are ways to breach through that security. But that is not the case for all who love God because there is a security that is found in relationship with God that nothing can breach.
No one, nothing can ever breach, break through. There is peace within these walls. There is security within these towers for all who have put their faith in Jesus, who have put their trust in God. You are absolutely 100% secure for all of eternity. Now, obviously that doesn’t mean that hard things won’t come your way, that bad things can happen to you.
I mean, the reality is one day each of us will eventually die and our life on this earth will end. But even then, this security that we have in Christ will not be breached. Because we are in Christ, not even death can take away this security. Death will only usher you and me into eternal life with Jesus. So if death can’t breach this security, nothing can. There’s nothing this world can throw at you or me who are in Jesus that can breach the security we have in God’s love and peace we have in God’s promises, God’s presence with us.
Psalm 122:6–7 Leads Us to Thank God For His Security
So we pray. God, thank you for security we have in you. Thank you that nothing in this world can take away the peace that you give in our hearts. The promises that you give for our lives. We praise you that not even death itself can take away the security we have in you. We know that even suffering in a Roman’s aide kind of way is only preparing us for glory to come. That there is security that is found in Jesus that nothing in this world can ever take away.
This Verse Leads Us to Ask God for Rest
God, I pray that this reality would bring rest to every single one of us that’s praying right now, that we would just realize that a fresh way, especially those who are walking through difficulties right now, but even as we think about potential difficulties to come in the future, to know that there will never be a security breach that will pull us away from your love. Romans 8: “Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers. Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
So yes, we say, we are secure as those who love you and we praise you for this reality. Help us to live with humble confidence in your security today. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
