“If you have been foolish, exalting yourself, or if you have been devising evil, put your hand on your mouth, for pressing milk produces curds, pressing the nose produces blood, and pressing anger produces strife.”
You put these two verses together, and there is so much to pray for in our lives, so let’s just walk through this and just step by step pray through what we just read, if you’ve been foolish, exalting yourself. Oh, God, we pray for wisdom to not exalt ourselves, for humility, never to exalt ourselves. God, may our ambition not be for self. May it be for you, for your glory, for others, for their good. God, please keep us from the foolishness that exalts ourselves, that wants to see ourselves lifted up. God, deliver us from that. We confess, according to your word, it’s foolishness, so save us from such foolishness. Help us to live to exalt you and to encourage, build up, exalt others in that sense. God, help us to live to exalt you and to live for the good of others above ourselves.
Father, we pray that Proverbs 30:32–33 would be realities in our lives today.
If you have been devising evil, put your hand on your mouth.
Oh, God, please give us minds and hearts and hands and mouths that devise good. God, we pray for pure, good motives, and pure, good plans, and pure, good words, for pure, good work to come from our lives. God, deliver us from evil, we pray, from hearts that devise evil, even suddenly almost unknowingly planning and working and speaking in ways that are good for us over others, that are good for us over you, so help us in humbly living to exalt you and humbly living for the good of others, to plan for what is good, to devise good, for we know that pressing milk produces curds, pressing the nose produces blood and pressing anger produces strife, so, God, we pray for kindness, for patience, for compassion, for love that overcome anger. God, keep us from anger, from unrighteous anger, from emotion and animosity toward others that produces strife with others.
God, help us to promote harmony and peace and joy among others. Help us to live wisely like that, not foolishly with anger. Oh, God, we pray that Proverbs 30:32 and 33 would be realities in our lives today, that we would wisely exalt you and live for the good of others, that we would devise good, and that we would have kindness and patience that avoid strife and promote peace.
May it be so today in us. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
