The Eternality of God’s Word (Matthew 24:35)

Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”
– Matthew 24:35

Matthew 24:35 is a good reminder of the eternality of God’s Word. The words of Jesus will last longer than anything else you see in the world around you. The words of Jesus will last longer than the world around you, and this world will pass away. There’s a new heaven and a new earth coming, but God’s Word will remain. It will stay the same.

This Verse Reminds Us God’s Word is Supreme

God help us to see the supremacy of Your Word over everything else in this world.

That means that when we open the Bible and we read it, we study it, we meditate on it, we memorize it, we hide it in our hearts, we are banking our life on that which will stand forever. That makes Bible reading, Bible study, Bible meditation, Bible memorization extremely important and extremely wise when it comes to how you spend your time. Don’t you want to spend your time on what matters forever, not what’s going to pass away next week or next month?

This fad, this possession will be gone, and even the things that we count on in this world will one day be gone, but God’s Word will never be gone. His words will never, ever, ever pass away. They are eternal. Oh, hide them in your heart. Memorize them. Study them. Learn them. Know God through his Word.

Matthew 24:35 Leads Us to Pray to See the Word Rightly

God, help us to have a right view of your Word. Help us to see its supremacy over everything else in this world. Help us to love your Word, to cherish your Word, to study your Word, to read your Word, to meditate on your Word, to memorize your Word, to hide it in our hearts, to digest it in our lives, to obey it in our lives. And help us to bank everything we do on your Word. Make it central in our lives.

O God, please, please cause your Word to be central in every one of our churches. God, we pray that your Word would be proclaimed, that your Word would be sung, that your Word would be prayed, that everything we do would revolve around your Word. O God, please help us to be wise in this way. Please forgive us for our foolishness, giving so much time, so much energy, so much thought to so many things in this world that will pass away, and so little time to that which will last forever.

O Jesus, we praise you for your Word. We praise you for giving it to us. We pray that you would help us to live like it is our most important possession today and tomorrow, knowing that it will be our possession forever. In Jesus’s name, we pray. Amen.
