The Grave Has Been Conquered (Romans 10:9)

On this Easter Sunday, I want to reflect on and pray according to a verse that specifically speaks to what we celebrate in churches around the world today, Romans 10:9.

“Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
– Romans 10:9

That is a promise that we bank our eternity on, that we celebrate today especially. In a sense, we celebrate this every Lord’s day, every Sunday, and all throughout the week for that matter when we gather together with God’s people and in particular on Easter Sunday. The reality, is that sinners who are separated from God and headed to an eternity separated from God. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God has raised Him from the dead, that God sent Jesus to pay the price for our sin, to die on the cross, to take the just payment we deserve for our sin upon himself.

Jesus defeats the Power of Sin and the Grave

God sent him to die for us and then God raised him from the dead. Jesus is not dead. Sin has no power over us. The grave has been conquered. Jesus is alive. Like right now, he is alive, and he’s alive forever, and he offers eternal life. Salvation from sin, eternal restoration to reconciliation with God for all who confess Jesus is Lord and believe in their heart God raised Him from the dead.

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9: Praising Jesus for His Victory Over the Grave

So we pray, God, thank you. Thank you for sending Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus, we praise you, right now. You are at the father’s right hand. You are alive. We are speaking to you. We are worshiping you today. You are alive. We are so glad you’re alive. Like that. That seems like … Those words don’t even begin to express how glad we are. We praise you. You are the risen Lord. You are God overall. Lord, You are the savior of our sin, you are the king who conquered death and we worship you today, and God we pray, we pray that you would draw many people to do Romans 10:9 today.

Asking God to Reach Out to the Hearts of the Lost

God, we pray that in Easter worship gatherings all around the world today where your people are coming together and they’re inviting friends and people who are kinda on the fringe, who come to church. God, we pray that today, people would confess with their mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in their heart that you have raised him from the dead.

Lord, please, bring people to salvation. You say they will receive salvation. Please bring people to salvation today. We pray for many, many people. Multitudes of people around the world to receive salvation today. Many people in each of our churches. God, we pray that you would save them today. We pray that if we’re listening to this before we go to an Easter service, you’d bring to our mind people that we can invite, that we can call at the last minute and say, “Come to this Easter gathering. Hear what Christianity is all about,” and God we pray that you would just do a supernatural work and open hearts to believe.

We pray that Romans 10:9 would happen on this Easter Sunday in lives around the world. For your glory and the salvation of men and women, students, and children. God, please may it be so. We praise you. We praise you for this good news, the greatest news in the world, death has been defeated. Eternal life is ours through Jesus. In his name we pray. Amen.
