“Moses and Aaron did so. They did just as the Lord commanded them.”
– Exodus 7:6
What a verse! What a simple verse. Oh, what a significant verse. What a verse that I want, I trust you want, to mark your life, my life. Let me read it again. Exodus 7:6: “Moses and Aaron did so. They did just as the Lord commanded them.”
Our life should be marked by obedience to God’s commands.
When we get to the end of our lives, and we stand before God, don’t we want it to be true of us? Don’t you want God to say of you, on that day, “He, she did just as I commanded him or her to do”?
Jesus has Covered our Imperfectness
Now obviously, even as I say that, none of us is perfect. Moses and Aaron were certainly not perfect here. Jesus is the only one who, in the end, God the Father would say, “You did exactly as I commanded you to do.” At the same time, one, praise Jesus, that he, the perfect one, died on the Cross for our sins, for all the times and all the ways we have not obeyed what God commanded us to do.
That Jesus has covered over all of our sins and disobedience to God’s command with his blood, with his grace, with his mercy, that when we stand before God, we will be counted with the righteousness of Jesus. That God will credit the righteousness of Jesus as if there was nothing that ever went wrong in our lives. He will see us and welcome us into His presence for all of eternity. So, praise God for His grace in that way.
Exodus 7:6 Encourages Total Obedience to God
And based on His grace, then, don’t you and I, with Jesus in us, now his Holy Spirit dwelling in us through faith in him, don’t we want to live in total obedience to God? Don’t we want to do all that the Lord commands us to do? Just pray this continually: God, I don’t want to do some of what you’ve commanded me to do.
God, I trust that others who are praying with me right now, that they don’t want to do some of what you commanded us to do, or to do part of what you call us to do. We want it to be said of us that when you speak to us, we do so. That we obey and do just as you command us. So, God, help us in this way, on a daily basis, as we just read through your Word, as we learn your commands, as we meditate on your Word. God, help us to do it. Help us to do it, we pray. All of it. All of it. The little things, the big things.
Exodus 7:6 Calls for Lives that are Zealous for God
And then, God, as you call us in different ways to do different things in our lives, God, we pray. We don’t want to leave anything on the table, so to speak. We want to lay down our entire lives before you and live with abandon, to live with zeal for all that you call us to do. God, we want to obey you completely, fully, wholly. We don’t want to waste our lives on this earth doing anything less than all you have called us to do, no matter what that means.
God, we pray that by the power of Jesus in us, knowing that he is our righteousness, that you would help us to do your Word, to do just as you command us to do today. And then again tomorrow, and the next day, and the big picture, ongoing, day-by-day-by-day do that in the end, by your grace, you might say to each of us, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
