“I will sing a new song to You, O God. I will sing a new song to You, O God.”
-Psalm 144:9

And then right after that, David who’s writing this Psalm just talks about how as God gives him victory, as God rescues him, as God delivers him from the hands of foreigners that he will sing a new song. And the picture is, every time I celebrate your deliverance, I find myself singing a new song.

Lord, may we ascribe to You the worship that You alone are due.

This is the language we see at other places throughout scripture, all the way to the end of the Bible in Revelation. In Revelation 5, they sing a new song. They sing “worthy are you to take the scroll.” I want to encourage you to do something and I’m going to, in just a moment, in a way that’s kind of different from most of these Pray the Word podcast episodes, I’m going to end this one a little early to give you just a minute or two. You already had like five minutes blocked out for this short podcast episode. I want you to spend the last one or two minutes doing this, singing a new song to God.

And you don’t have to be musically talented to do this, but I don’t want you to just think about this. Right now, just a minute from now, you can just pause wherever you are and just sing a song. Make up a song of praise to God. It could just be a couple, few lines long, or maybe it keeps going. I don’t know if you’ve ever done this, but it’ll take a little getting used to at first. But it’s an awesome exercise to realize, all right, I’m singing a new song to God. One that has never been sung by anybody else in worship to God. I’m singing it right now.

Don’t put pressure on yourself. It doesn’t have to sound amazing. It doesn’t have to rhyme. It doesn’t have to be like on the next Getty album. Like this is not something that is even intended to be produced for others. This is between you and God right here. Just lifting a new song to him. You just think about what’s going on in your life right now and just put a song of praise to God, and just sing a new song of praise to God.

Just try it, just try it. You don’t even have to have instruments behind you. Just go for it. Just see what happens when you intentionally lift up a new song to God. Right now, O God, we want to lift up. I just think about all the people that are listening to this podcast right now and each one of us, right after I say, “Amen,” just lifting up a song for the next 60 seconds or maybe longer. I pray that your spirit might lead us to, some of us to go longer, whether you would hear just thousands and thousands of new songs lifted in praise to you right now. We sing these songs to you, new songs to you, O God. Go for it. Just start singing a song to God right where you are.
