I’m assuming I’m not the only Christian who has ever been in a conversation with a Mormon, a Muslim, or an adherent to some other religion while attempting to recall (mentally) what it is that they believe. This can be frustrating, and distracting, in the moment, and it often leaves us feeling as if we’re on the defensive.
Of course, we don’t have to be experts in another religion in order to engage someone in an evangelistic conversation. The power of the gospel is not dependent on our knowledge (or lack thereof) or our abilities. Talking about the good news of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection is always worth it, regardless of your familiarity with another person’s beliefs. Nevertheless, knowing some of the basics of other religions can be extremely helpful as you seek to share the gospel. You will be better equipped to address potential misunderstandings they might have or common objections they may raise. This kind of background knowledge can also communicate your respect for and concern for the person.
With this in mind, Radical has created a variety of “Quick Guides” to various religions, cults, and counterfeit gospels. (You can download these for free below.) These are certainly not intended to convey all that you need to know about these belief systems, but they can serve as a starting point or a quick reminder. Hopefully, these guides will encourage you to learn more about these belief systems so that, by the power of the Spirit, you can more effectively communicate the truths of God’s Word to those whose minds have been blinded by “the god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4).
