Delhi represents India to the rest of the world. With commerce as its primary industry, Delhi is home to people from all over the world and serves as the governmental headquarters for India. Delhi is one of the fastest growing cities in the world, with a population growth of 300,000 births per year. The city retains remnants from the past, including everything from ancient Hindu kingdoms to British rule, yet it is one of the major cities propelling India into the future with large universities and a well-developed cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Though every major religion in the world can be found in Delhi, the majority of Delhi residents are Hindu (about 80 percent). City streets are lined with shrines and temples dedicated to the millions of Hindu gods. Large mosques and Sikh temples are also plentiful in the bustling city filled with people from all walks of life. Christians are a minority in Delhi, but the church is growing and reaching out to the multitudes around them. Believers frequently prayer walk around the city, recognizing that only God can reach the multitudes of people who call Delhi home.

New Christians in Delhi, like much of India, face some form of persecution for their faith in Christ. Believers are taught to expect persecution as a normal part of their new life with Christ. Take some time to pray for Delhi—it’s lost multitudes and its small but growing body of Christ.

Pray for Indian Christians in Delhi to reach out to their neighbors of other religions and for the church to grow significantly this year in Delhi.

Pray for unity among believers in Delhi, especially among leaders, so that the world will know they are Christians by the love they have for one another.

Pray for the gospel to reach far and wide to the masses in Delhi. May Delhi be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14).

Pray for Christians in the professional communities of the middle and upper classes to be equipped to engage in ministry among their peers. Pray that this group would influence the entire nation in coming to know the Truth.
