On April 25 in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, India, fundamentalist Hindus soaked a pastor and his pregnant wife in gasoline and attempted to burn them alive.
According to a recent prayer update by Open Doors, the radical group vandalized the church and attempted to force the Christians to shout “Jai Shri Ram” or “Praise the name of god Ram.” After this they attacked the pastor and his wife and burned the Bible. Fortunately, the pastor, his wife, and the baby survived the attack along with their congregation.
This attack is one of many that have occurred since May 2014 when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came into power in the government. Although attacks were common before, the government’s passivity in condemning violence against Christians has given Hindu fundamentalist groups extra boldness in their quest to rid India of Christianity.
Please pray for Christians in India, where persecution continues to increase as the church grows stronger.
Pray for the pastor and his wife to recover physically and emotionally from the attack at their church. Pray for the continued health of their baby.
Pray for the couple to lead their church in boldly proclaiming the name of Christ to their community.
Pray for the church in Bastar not to give into fear after these attacks but to be bold to share the gospel and stand up for Christ.
