While visiting my wife’s family last December, I received a random text message from a friend of mine that went something like this:
“Hey man, I just got this crazy idea from the Lord. What if we got all of our Christian content creator friends to make a gospel presentation video, and we each posted to social media on Christmas morning, reminding people around the world what Christmas is actually all about!”
You Can Reach Both the Neighborhoods & Nations on Social Media
Needless to say, I didn’t need much convincing. At that point in time, I had been making Christian videos on social media for about two years, and I had already seen the Lord move in pretty amazing ways. A few months prior, my friend Blake and I started an online Zoom Bible Study community open to the entire world. In our very first meeting, we actually maxed out the Zoom capacity, and quickly learned we needed to make more room for people who were hungry to belong to a like-minded community and learn about God’s Word online. At its peak, our Worldwide Zoom Bible Study community was seeing 500-700 people show up weekly. We’ve seen people give their lives to Jesus, get baptized, and get connected with local churches.
But back to that text message. I was instantly sold. On Christmas Eve, I wrote out the script, filmed, and edited my gospel presentation video. Then, on Christmas morning, I posted that video to my Instagram and TikTok accounts. With around 20 to 30 of my Christian content creator friends doing the same thing, the response we received was beyond anything we could have imagined.
On Instagram alone, the video went viral, reaching nearly 900,000 views, leading to 7,500 people deciding to follow Jesus over the span of two weeks. On TikTok, the same video reached another 100,000 views with 2,500 more decisions in that same span of time. This wasn’t about getting views—it was about real people making life-changing decisions for Jesus. Moments like those remind me just how powerful it can be to share the gospel on social media.
You Don’t Need a Big Following to Share the Gospel
So, if you’ve ever wondered whether sharing the gospel on social media is still worth it, it absolutely is! I get it, though. With so much content circulating the internet, it can feel overwhelming to put yourself out there, and it makes you question if your efforts are really making a difference. But trust me, from what I’ve seen, sharing the love of Jesus online is one of the most impactful things you can do.
With so much content circulating the internet, it can feel overwhelming to put yourself out there.
And here’s the thing—you don’t need a huge platform to start making a big impact. If you have a smartphone, you already have everything you need. The world is more connected than ever before, and social media is the largest mission field out there. There are billions of people online, and you have the opportunity to reach them with the message of Jesus. My main audience is Gen Z, and while many of the people who see my videos are Christians, I always try to make my content welcoming for those who aren’t. This generation craves authenticity, and social media is where they’re hanging out on the daily. Even if they wouldn’t normally walk into a church, they’re open to exploring Christianity online, and that’s a huge opportunity for us.
Now, I won’t lie—there are definitely challenges. Negative comments are pretty much guaranteed. But what frustrates me the most isn’t actually the hate from non-believers—it’s when I see other Christians being divisive or judgmental in comment sections. That kind of behavior hurts our witness and gives people the wrong idea about who Jesus is. But here’s the thing: the positive impact far outweighs the negatives. I’ve received so many comments and direct messages from people saying my videos have helped them share the gospel with their friends or even led them to explore their faith in Christ for the first time. That’s what makes it all worth it.
Ensure Your Content is Biblically Grounded
Everything I do online is grounded in Scripture. More than being a teacher (considering the warning of James 3:1), John 10:10 reminds me to create content that’s joyful and life-giving. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 keeps me going when I feel weak, knowing that God’s power shines bright in those moments. And Romans 1:16 pushes me to be bold and unashamed because the gospel is the power of God for salvation.
The digital world is an ever-expanding mission field, and you don’t have to be perfect to start. Whether it’s through photos, videos, or even livestreams, there are so many ways to share the love of Jesus with others. And who knows? With the way technology is evolving, especially with things like VR on the horizon, we might soon be able to share the gospel in ways that feel just as real as in-person interactions.
In the end, the question isn’t whether it’s worth it to share the gospel on social media—it’s how could we not? We have this incredible message of hope and salvation, and social media gives us the chance to share it with the world. So, grab your phone and start sharing. You never know whose life might be changed because of it.
