“I’m religious and I follow certain practices, but when I get down to thinking about it…I know that’s it’s the reason for divide. Every religion is beautiful in its own way, but enforcing it, or trying to make it superior than other religions divides the world. Maybe we should start practicing love for humanity before anything else, and then maybe the world will know peace.”
This statement appeared on the Humans of Bombay Facebook page last week along with a picture of a Muslim man. Within two days it had over 5,000 likes and 646 shares. Commenters praised the post for its insights, saying, “Truer words have not been spoken. Humanity before religion.” Some called the man’s statement “a true spiritual practice.”
Others quoted influential people such as Nietzsche: “You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.”
As Christ-followers, how should we respond to statements like this? How can we show love for all people while also speaking the truth from God’s word?
Living the Gospel
Secret Church 16 “A Global Gospel in a World of Religions” will address several issues of this kind. Multiple religions exist throughout the world, all holding to the “truth” about who we are and how we should live.
Some questions we will consider include:
- Is there one right way to believe or are there many right ways to believe?
- Specifically, how does the gospel of Christ compare and contrast with other world religions?
- If we believe this gospel, then how should we share it specifically with people of other faiths?
Join in on Friday, April 29, 2016, to hear David Platt address the claims of Christ in the gospel and how these claims shape our understanding of religions and cults in the world. Learn how to live as faithful ministers of the gospel surrounded by people of various belief systems.
